Gloucestershire Inn Owner Launches Fund To Restore Memorials to the War Fallen

War Memorial
A Gloucestershire hotelier is launching an appeal among fellow licensees to carry out improvements to their war memorials to honour the dead of both world wars.

Robert Jenkins, owner of The Inn at Fossebridge, himself a former army officer said: "The sad farewells to Henry Allingham and Harry Patch was deeply moving. But mainly memorials to people like them are in disrepair, which seems awful, especially when in some cases you cannot even read their names anymore."

So Robert's team at The Inn has decided to hold a fund raising Summer Barbecue in the grounds on Saturday 22 August, from 7pm. Robert's culinary expert daughter Elizabeth, along with Head Chef Damien Dupuis and their kitchen team, will create a menu around one of their signature dishes - the favourite, the Fossebridge burger.

"We hope it will really be well supported; the cause is so important for the fallen and history; what we are doing is just piece of a bigger puzzle of which we hope our colleagues in the industry will join forces with their own fund raising events"

Robert's team has already approached Northleach Town Council to ask if funds are required for their war memorial.

The Inn's £11.95 BBQ event will be staged in the beautiful grounds in which are situated a lake covering an acre and a stretch of the River Coln, as it meanders towards Bibury.

Food will include the burgers, Cumberland sausages, barbecue marinated chicken breasts, balsamic portobello mushrooms with dolcelatte cheese, mixed vegetable skewers, a range of salads, crudités, dips, relishes and various breads. Guests will also be able to enjoy a dessert for an additional £3.95.

Organiser Samantha Jenkins says, it is advisable to book, so that if weather becomes inclement, guests can continue to enjoy the BBQ in the Garden Room - venue for business meetings, family parties and weddings.

The Inn at Fossebridge was purchased five years ago when it was in a total derelict state. Today it has 8 luxury en suite bedrooms, a traditional bar, private dining areas, and a Lakeside Cottage in the grounds that sleeps 10. It has four star AA recognition with a special award for food, plus the VisitBritain four rosettes accreditation.
